The problem
Popular analytics tools collect more data than a small site needs and slow pages down. Pano is a sample dashboard that shows only the essential metrics while respecting privacy.
My contribution
Tracking script, ingestion endpoint, aggregation jobs, and the dashboard interface.
How I built it
- Interface
- A tracking script of a few kilobytes, with daily-rotating anonymous keys that never identify visitors.
- API and server
- An ingestion endpoint that queues and batches events so traffic spikes do not slow it down.
- Data layer
- A Redis and PostgreSQL layer that rolls raw events into hourly summaries to keep queries fast.
Outcome and takeaways
This sample focuses on painting a useful picture with little data. The most valuable decision was writing down why each metric was needed before building it.
